How the project helps strengthen CLABSI prevention
Although largely preventable, central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI) continue to pose a serious threat to patient safety, contributing to increased morbidity, mortality and healthcare costs. The systematic implementation of preventive measures therefore remains a major challenge.
To strengthen the prevention of CLABSI in Swiss acute care hospitals, the project team first analysed current practices. In close collaboration with partner hospitals, evidence-based recommendations adapted to the Swiss context, a practical implementation guide, and an automated tool for monitoring process indicators will then be developed. These tools will be made available to Swiss acute care hospitals by the end of 2028.
The project is coordinated by Prof. Niccolò Buetti and Dr. Gaud Catho, supported by a small project team and the partner hospitals.
